Early Life and Education
Aneesh Sarkar was born in Patna, Bihar, to a culturally enriched and value-driven family. His father worked as a professional in the merchant navy, bringing global exposure to the household, while his mother led a spiritual organization, instilling discipline and a sense of service. As their only child, Sarkar was raised with high moral values and a commitment to excellence.
He completed his Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical and Electronics, a technical background that laid the groundwork for his later expertise in cybercrime and intelligence operations.
Career in the Indian Police Service
Entry and Lalgarh Posting
Sarkar joined the Indian Police Service in 2008 and was assigned to the West Bengal cadre. His first major posting was in Lalgarh, Paschim Medinipur—then one of the most volatile Maoist-affected areas in the country. Even as a probationer, he showcased leadership and operational strategy that earned him command roles in anti-Maoist missions.
During nearly three years in the region, he was pivotal in reversing insurgent control and restoring civic stability through coordinated combing operations and intelligence work.
Rise through Bidhannagar Commissionerate
Upon transfer to the newly formed Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate, Sarkar took charge as Assistant Commissioner of Police (Airport). Here, he dismantled the feared Babai gang, responsible for a wave of organized crimes, including murders and armed robberies.
Later, as Assistant Commissioner of Police (ATS), he played a key role in the arrest of the leader of the terror group Jamiat ul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), which had direct links to the Bardhaman blast—a case of national importance.
CID and High-Impact Investigations
Promoted as Deputy Superintendent of Police in the CID, Sarkar handled the investigation of the Ranaghat rape case, a sensitive national incident. His team ensured the capture and prosecution of the primary offenders.
Following the arrest of an ISIS-affiliated radical, Sarkar was instrumental in cyber forensics and online radicalization monitoring—decoding communication channels used by terror networks and contributing to India’s cyber counter-terror architecture.
Murshidabad and NRC Crisis Management
As Additional SP in Murshidabad, Sarkar was thrust into the limelight during the Daulatabad bus tragedy, where 42 lives were lost. Despite being injured himself during unrest, he calmed the situation and earned personal commendation from the Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal.
He also successfully contained violence arising from the NRC agitation, ensuring both restraint and order in one of the most sensitive regions in the state.
Anti-Drug and Border Crime Operations in Malda
Transferred to Malda, Sarkar led robust operations as Additional SP (Rural), launching a campaign against drug mafias in Kaliachak. Numerous arrests and major drug seizures were made under his command.
As Special Superintendent of Police, CID (Malda Zone), he led a landmark operation resulting in the seizure of ₹1.4 crore in illegal cash and intensified investigations into cattle smuggling networks operating across India-Bangladesh borders.
Current Role
Aneesh Sarkar currently serves as the **Deputy Commissioner of Police** for Bidhannagar Zone, West Bengal. He leads diverse units dealing with cyber surveillance, organized crime, and urban law enforcement. Known for strategic thinking and a calm demeanor under pressure, he is seen as a field-first officer who leads by example.
Personal Life
A devoted husband and father to two daughters, Sarkar lives by the principles taught by his parents—compassion, resilience, and discipline. He remains grounded despite the demands of his role and credits his family's support for his professional strength.
Legacy and Impact
Respected by peers and juniors alike, Sarkar has created a lasting impact across every department he's served. From jungle warfare to digital policing, his achievements span a wide operational spectrum. While he maintains a low media profile, his success has earned attention across news outlets and institutional circles.
His leadership during crises, particularly the Lalgarh operations and Malda anti-narcotics campaigns, is widely regarded as exemplary within the Indian Police Service.
