Kavita was born in Keil, Germany, but her parents had to relocate to the U.S. when she was young. She was then raised in Elliot City, Howard County, where she demonstrated her entrepreneurial spirit at a young age. She is best known as the founder of Fenugreen, a company dedicated to creating sustainable and affordable food packaging solutions. Shukla's unwavering commitment to tackling food waste and improving global health has earned her numerous accolades and recognition.

Early Life and Background

Kavita’s interest in organic food preservation started at the age of 12. While on vacation in India at her grandmother’s house, she mistakenly drank tap water supposedly contaminated with harmful substances. Her grandmother instantly handed her a glass of a strange beverage called a ‘Herbal Potion’, effectively preventing her from getting sick. Upon returning to the U.S., Kavita looked up the potion’s ingredients and discovered the antimicrobial properties of Fenugreek seeds mixed in the water her grandmother made her drink.

This revelation inspired her to explore the potential applications of these spices, leading to her inventing a wrapping paper infused with Fenugreek seeds to preserve food products against harmful microbes effectively. The idea later became the foundation of her invention and development of FreshPaper.

Alongside, at just 13 years old, she curated a laboratory equipment protective kit for flasks and tubes containing toxic chemicals, which she trademarked and named ‘Smart Lid’. This marked the beginning of her entrepreneurial journey, during which she obtained 4 patents in her name.

Career

Inspired by her grandmother's wisdom of using a blend of spices to keep produce fresh, Shukla delved into extensive research on the antimicrobial properties of natural ingredients. This quest ultimately led her to develop a revolutionary invention known as FreshPaper. This biodegradable and compostable sheet, infused with organic spices, is placed with fresh produce to extend its shelf life naturally. It not only prevents the growth of bacteria and fungi but also keeps fruits and vegetables fresh for longer without the need for refrigeration or harmful chemicals.

In 2010, Shukla founded Fenugreen with the vision of creating a positive impact on global health and reducing food waste. The company's flagship product, FreshPaper, has since garnered international recognition and is now used by millions of households, farmers, and food banks around the world. Shukla's dedication to sustainable solutions has helped empower individuals and communities by providing access to affordable and safe food preservation methods.
