Manish Chaubey (born 16 August 1985) is an Indian filmmaker, producer, and entrepreneur, best known as the founder of Roohdaar Films & Entertainment (ROOFe). The company is known for blending film production, artist management, public relations, digital marketing, and event management under one creative platform. With a dynamic career spanning technology, journalism, and entertainment, Manish Chaubey is recognized for his commitment to independent cinema and his distinct human-centered storytelling approach.

Early Life and Education

Manish Chaubey was born in Delhi, India, and hails from the hill state of Uttarakhand. He completed his education at the University of Delhi (DU), earning a postgraduate degree in Computer Science. During his academic years, Chaubey developed a passion for theatre and performance, actively participating in stage productions and eventually serving as President of his college’s dramatics society. His early experiences in theatre refined his understanding of character development and narrative construction. After completing his studies, he began a career as a software engineer before ultimately transitioning into the world of cinema.

Career Beginnings: From IT to Cinema

After a successful tenure in the IT industry, Chaubey made a pivotal shift toward filmmaking. Relocating to Mumbai, he studied the craft of film direction and began his career as an Assistant Director. He later joined the ABP Group as a cameraman and reporter, where he developed a strong grasp of visual communication and media storytelling. These experiences provided the foundation for his filmmaking ethos — one that combines realism, empathy, and narrative depth.

Transition to PR, Artist Management, and Events

Manish Chaubey’s professional evolution led him to roles in public relations, artist management, and event strategy. He collaborated with top PR firms and managed promotional campaigns for major Bollywood stars such as Priyanka Chopra, Shilpa Shetty, Anil Kapoor, and R. Madhavan. He also contributed to film campaigns for Atrangi Re, Jersey, Rocketry, Good Luck Jerry, and Ek Villain 2. His ability to merge narrative sensibility with marketing strategy earned him a respected position in the entertainment PR and artist management landscape.

Founding of Roohdaar Films & Entertainment

In 2024, Manish co-founded Roohdaar Films & Entertainment (ROOFe) with his partner, Reeshma Radhakrrishnan. The name “Roohdaar” — derived from Urdu words meaning “holder of the soul” — reflects his commitment to creating emotionally resonant, meaningful cinema. The name was inspired by Irrfan Khan’s iconic character in Vishal Bhardwaj’s Haider. ROOFe functions as a multi-vertical creative enterprise, combining film production, artist management, PR, and digital strategy, with offices in Delhi, Mumbai, and Hyderabad.

The company’s divisions include:

  • Roohdaar Films: Focused on film, documentary, and ad production.
  • Roohdaar Entertainment: Dedicated to PR, talent management, and media strategy.

‘Mother of Many Hands’ – Debut Documentary

Under Chaubey’s direction, Roohdaar Films launched its debut documentary, Mother of Many Hands, centered on the life of a domestic worker and mother of three. Shot in Hyderabad, the film highlights dignity in labor and the silent resilience of Indian women. Currently in post-production, it embodies Roohdaar’s vision of soulful and socially conscious storytelling.
