Narendra Damodardas Modi (born 17 September 1950) is an Indian politician, statesman, author, and public leader serving as the 14th Prime Minister of India since 26 May 2014. He is a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and previously served as the Chief Minister of Gujarat from 2001 to 2014.

Modi is recognized for his leadership in governance, economic reforms, digital transformation, infrastructure development, financial inclusion, and India's expanding role in global diplomacy. He has led the BJP to victories in the 2014, 2019, and 2024 Indian general elections.

Early life and education

Narendra Modi was born on 17 September 1950 in Vadnagar, Mehsana district, Gujarat, India, to Damodardas Mulchand Modi and Heeraben Modi.

Raised in a modest family, he spent his childhood assisting his father in selling tea at the Vadnagar railway station while completing his early education. These experiences contributed to his disciplined lifestyle and understanding of ordinary people's lives.

Political career

Narendra Modi began his public life as a full-time pracharak with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), where he developed organizational, leadership, and communication skills.

During the 1980s, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and held several organizational responsibilities, managing election campaigns and party expansion across different states.

In 2001, he became the Chief Minister of Gujarat, serving until 2014. During his tenure, the state witnessed industrial growth, infrastructure expansion, improvements in electricity distribution, investment promotion through the Vibrant Gujarat Summit, and governance reforms.
