Daniel Joshua - Founder
Daniel Joshua is the founder of Daniel's Boomerang and the only boomerang maker in North India. Alongside his passion for boomerangs, Daniel is also a talented music composer and lyricist. His song, "मेरा देश है वीरों वाला" (Mera Desh Hai Viro Wala), was recently launched by the Governor. Daniel has also assisted the Marathi Duo Music directors Avinash-Vishwajeet in films like Cappuccino, Guru Pornima, MPM2. He has contributed his music and vocals to the Amity University short film 'Khata' and created an awareness song on Covid-19. Daniel's musical talents have been recognized and appreciated by various political leaders and administrative officers. He has also composed theme songs for NGOs, political parties, college fests, jingles, cities, and malls. Additionally, he serves as the director of a singing competition called Limelight, Meri Nayi Pehchaan.
What is Boomerang
Boomerang is an interesting sport that requires practice, skill, and concentration. It is a sport that has been around for centuries and is played in many countries around the world. It involves throwing a curved, flat object (boomerang) in a particular direction and then having it return to the thrower. The 'Jungle Book' character 'Mowgli' used to have a weapon, popularly known as 'Mowgli ka panja,' which was a traditionally shaped boomerang. The boomerang is typically made of wood, plastic, fiberglass, carbon fiber, paper, etc. The best makers use a combination of materials to ensure the most successful throws and catches. Experienced boomerang makers keep experimenting with new materials to make boomerangs.
History Behind Boomerang
Boomerangs have a rich history dating back to the Dreamtime, according to Australian Aboriginal legends. It is believed that the first boomerangs created geographical features across the continent. Boomerangs have been found in ancient Aboriginal rock art, with some paintings estimated to be 20,000 years old. Boomerang-like implements have also been discovered in Egypt, Europe, South India, and North America, indicating their widespread use throughout history. Traditional Aboriginal boomerangs were used for hunting, fighting, ceremony, and storytelling. Remarkable discoveries, such as the oldest wooden boomerangs found in Wyrie Swamp, South Australia, which are approximately 10,000 years old, connect modern boomerangs to their ancient roots. Boomerang throwing is often referred to as the "world's oldest sport."
Vision & Mission
Workshops & Awareness Programs: Daniel's Boomerang has conducted over 40 workshops in schools, colleges, slums, orphanages, villages, and among working professionals. Through these workshops, they have brought awareness of the boomerang sport to over 5,000 people, with at least a hundred new throwers joining the Indian throwers community. These workshops aim to educate and inspire individuals about boomerangs.
Boomerang Making: In India, boomerangs are not easily accessible or affordable due to the country's relative novelty to the sport. Importing boomerangs from Australia, Europe, the UK, or America incurs significant costs. Daniel's Boomerang addresses this issue by making boomerangs that comply with international standards and offering short-range beginner boomerangs at affordable prices.
Current Work
Daniel's Boomerang is committed to bringing awareness to the sport of boomerang. They visit various communities, including villages, cities, slums, orphanages, educational institutions, government organizations, NGOs, medical professionals, lawyers, officers, politicians, media personnel, kids, teens, youths, and the elderly. Through demonstrations and workshops, they showcase how a boomerang flies and returns, explaining the mechanics of a boomerang. They provide workshops to those interested in learning and gift boomerangs to aid in their practice. Dignitaries are also presented with boomerangs as mementos. Additionally, the company organizes events such as boomerang tournaments, boomerang-making workshops, exhibitions, and awareness workshops.
