K. C. Venugopal
Kuruppasserry Varkey Cherian Venugopal, widely known as K. C. Venugopal, is an Indian politician and Member of Parliament, currently representing Rajasthan in the Rajya Sabha. Born on February 4, 1963, in Payyanur, Kerala, he is an influential member of the Indian National Congress.
Political Career
K. C. Venugopal's political journey began through the Student Movement of the Indian National Congress. He assumed various leadership roles, becoming the State President of the Kerala Students Union and State President of the Indian Youth Congress. His entry into active politics culminated in his election to the Kerala Legislative Assembly from the Alappuzha Constituency in 1996, 2001, and 2006. During his tenure in the Kerala Legislative Assembly, Venugopal served as the Minister for Dewaswom and Tourism in the Oommen Chandy Ministry from 2004-06. His impact and leadership skills propelled him to contest the General Elections to the Lok Sabha from the Alappuzha Constituency in 2009, where he emerged victorious. Venturing beyond his home district, Venugopal became the Minister of State for Power in the Manmohan Singh ministry from January 2011 to October 2012. Subsequently, he took charge as the Minister of State for Civil Aviation from October 2012 to May 2014.
Political Relocation

Role in Tourism Development
Noteworthy is Venugopal's personal interest in various tourism projects in his home district when he served as the Tourism Minister. His contributions include the renovation of Gandhi Park at Payyanur, approval of proposals for beach development, and the initiation of an eco-tourism project for Paithalmala.
Recent Positions
On April 29, 2017, K. C. Venugopal was appointed as the General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) and given additional charge of Karnataka. Later, he assumed the role of General Secretary (Organisation) of the AICC in 2019, succeeding Ashok Gehlot. In the Rajya Sabha elections on June 19, 2020, Venugopal emerged victorious, representing the state of Rajasthan.
Coordination Committee Appointment
Venugopal was appointed as a member of the Coordination Committee of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance in September 2023. This committee holds the responsibility of deciding the national agenda, common campaign issues, and the common program of the country's main opposition alliance. K. C.
