Directorial career

''Nitham Oru Vaanam''

Karthik made his feature-film directorial debut with Nitham Oru Vaanam, a Tamil-language romantic drama released on 4 November 2022.[1] The film stars Ashok Selvan in multiple roles alongside Ritu Varma, Aparna Balamurali and Shivathmika Rajashekar. Karthik also wrote the film.

The story follows a young man who encounters two incomplete real-life stories and sets out on a journey to discover how they end. The film follows Shenba, a young woman from Tamil Nadu who travels to Seoul, South Korea, and encounters unexpected challenges after her plans are disrupted. It explores themes of identity, independence, friendship and cultural connections between India and Korea.

The project was partly filmed in South Korea and represented an expansion of Karthik's filmmaking into an international setting. Netflix's official press material stated that Karthik was inspired by cultural and historical connections he discovered between Korean and Tamil heritage while researching the project.[4]
