Reena Bhatti[1] is an Indian mountaineer known for her remarkable achievements in scaling various mountain peaks around the world. She made history as the first Indian woman[2] to hoist the Indian flag on the highest peak of the continent of Russia and Europe, [3]Mount Elbrus East (5621 meters) and Mount Elbrus West (5642 meters), within just 24 hours. Additionally, she became the first woman from abroad to hoist her country's flag on both Mount Kong Yatse (6250 meters) and Mount Jongo (6240 meters) in Ladakh in an impressive duration of 70 hours.[4]

Early Life & Education

Reena Bhatti [5]was born on June 3, 1988, in Hisar, Haryana, as the daughter of Sh. Balwan Singh. She completed her diploma in Computer Science from Govt Polytechnic and pursued a Master's degree in Computer Science from Guru Jambheshwar University in Hisar.[6]

Career

After completing her Master's degree, Reena Bhatti [7]started working in the IT sector as a manager in an authorized service center in Hisar. Her interest in trekking grew during her studies, and after successfully completing the Chadar Trek, she decided to pursue mountaineering as a profession. Reena underwent Basic and Advanced Mountaineering Courses at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports, where she honed her mountaineering skills.[8]

Mountaineering Achievements

Reena Bhatti [9]embarked on her mountaineering career in 2016 and accomplished remarkable feats over the span of six years. Her notable achievements include:

Hoisting the Indian flag on Mount Elbrus (5642 meters), the highest mountain in Europe, on Independence Day. This historic moment occurred at 5:43 am on August 15, 2022, during the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations. Conquering Mount Kong Yatse (6250 meters) and Mount Jojango (6240 meters) in Ladakh within just 70 hours, becoming the first woman from abroad to hoist her country's flag on both peaks.[10] Participating in the "RUN AGAINST DEPRESSION," the world's biggest relay run aimed at combating depression that spread during the post-COVID-19 period. This race holds the Guinness World Record for the World's Greatest Distance Relay Run.[11]

Reena Bhatti's [12]outstanding mountaineering accomplishments have earned her recognition and accolades. Some of the notable honors she has received include: Honored by Sh. Manohar Lal Khattar, the Chief Minister of Haryana. Recognized by Dr. Kamal Gupta, the Haryana Legislative Assembly. Honored by Smt. Kamlesh Dhanda, the Minister of Women & Child Development Reena Bhatti is also gaining popularity for the skills that she possess. She scaled these 14 peaks in almost no time. Today, she is an inspiration to the younger generation at schools and colleges. She is also a well-known face in the corporate sector for guiding and metoring the young mountaineers, and she has played a key role in shaping the Mountaineering Sports in India.[13]
