However, after failing the physical test twice, he had to let go of that ambition. His father then made the decision to send Avinash to Canada. Although cricket was just a hobby for Avinash, his talent caught the attention of Mayank Goswami, a former cricketer and coach, in February 2022.

During a visit to Mayank Goswami's cricket academy, Avinash's bowling style impressed the renowned coach. Goswami invited him to join the academy, but Avinash initially declined due to financial constraints. Recognizing Avinash's potential, Goswami reached out to his family and convinced them to let him pursue cricket. Avinash eventually joined Mayank's academy and had his first experience playing with a leather ball.
Tewatia made his debut for Haryana during the 2013–14 Ranji Trophy, taking the field against Karnataka at the Bansi Lal Cricket Stadium on 6 December 2013. Although he didn't make a significant impact with the bat in his initial appearances, he continued to showcase his potential.

After training at Mayank's academy for a few weeks, Avinash was sent to Pune, where he trained under the guidance of Ashok Gaikwad, another experienced cricket coach. Avinash honed his skills during this period before returning to Jammu and Kashmir in June. He showcased his talent at various camps organized by IPL franchises such as Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), and Delhi Capitals (DC).

It was at an RCB camp that Avinash caught the attention of scouts who were impressed with his bowling action. This led to an invitation to join RCB's training sessions. Avinash's dedication and hard work paid off when he attended trials with Kolkata, Lucknow, and Delhi franchises, all of which went well. Avinash, filled with confidence, anticipated being picked up by an IPL team.
In the IPL, Tewatia made his debut for the Rajasthan Royals in 2014. He later represented the Kings XI Punjab and the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) before being traded back to the Rajasthan Royals in 2019. However, it was in the 2020 IPL season that Tewatia truly rose to prominence. In a match against the Kings XI Punjab, he achieved a remarkable feat by hitting 5 sixes in a single over, equaling Chris Gayle's record. His exceptional innings of 53 runs off 31 balls not only helped his team chase down a mammoth target but also set a new record for the highest successful run chase in IPL history.

In the 2023 IPL mini-auction held in Kochi, Avinash Singh's dream turned into reality as he was bought by the Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs. 60 lakhs. This opportunity marked a significant milestone in his cricketing career and opened doors for him to compete at the highest level of Indian cricket.
In the 2022 IPL auction, Tewatia was acquired by the Gujarat Titans, where he continued to showcase his skills as a valuable asset to the team. In a match against the Punjab Kings, he displayed nerves of steel, hitting consecutive sixes on the final two balls of the match, securing a thrilling victory for his team.
